Every milestone your baby achieves is not only exciting but a true blessing. Even if that milestone is teething, this uncomfortable milestone can come with sensitive gums, drooling, crankiness, the need to chew on everything in sight, and sometimes even a low-grade fever. Take it from me; none of this is exciting! It’s difficult to watch your child go through these painful stages. Unfortunately, it’s something all parents must suffer through with their babies. So what are your options? How do you help your little one cope with the discomfort? You have a few choices. You can try over-the-counter baby remedies, or you can try the more homeopathic approach. I am a fan of more natural remedies like teething toys, DIY popsicles, and these Quinoa Pear Teething Biscuits.
Thus far, Emory’s teething symptoms have been amazingly minimal. Her two bottom teeth began to sprout around nine months and officially popped through around ten months. Most recently, her two top teeth have come in, and to our surprise, the only symptoms exhibited were fussiness and finger chewing. I started making DIY popsicles with my breast milk, and LOVES them even when she isn’t teething.
We’ve noticed that her gums are getting a bit swollen, and her incisors seem to be approaching the surface. Although she doesn’t appear in pain yet, I have noticed that she is looking for something to provide her with a bit of relief. She likes the Nosh Baby Munchables Teethers with Organic Rice. I highly recommend these if you want something to give your baby while researching recipes.
When researching recipes, my main goals were to locate snacks that contained:
- no added sweeteners
- no wheat products
- no salt
- no artificial flavors or ingredients
I stumbled across a recipe for teething biscuits that I liked and decided to try it. It took a couple of failed attempts before I could somewhat perfect the recipe. I am still attempting to get an understanding of the exact texture of these teething biscuits. The first run came out very hard, like dog treats. Emory couldn’t break them; she just used them to massage her gums and then tossed them aside. The second batch while a little softer but didn’t dissolve. After attempting to locate a recipe that truly described the texture of the biscuits, I’ve settled on the conclusion that these teething biscuits are best suited to massage sore gums vs. actual consumption.

INGREDIENTS NEEDED TO MAKE QUINOA TEETHING BISCUITS WITH PEARS
- 1 cup quinoa flour
- 1/2 cup tapioca flour
- 3 Tbsp coconut oil
- 1/2 cup ripened pear puree
- 1/4 tsp nutmeg
HOW TO MAKE QUINOA PEAR TEETHING BISCUITS
- In a bowl, add the quinoa flour, tapioca starch, coconut oil, ripened pear puree, nutmeg.
- Combine everything into a soft dough.
- Take one tablespoon of mix and roll it in your hands, forming a long finger shape.
- Place the cookies one next to another on a baking sheet lined with some parchment paper.
- Bake at 300F for 20 minutes. Turn off the oven and leave the cookies inside for another 20 minutes to get firm and hard.
HOW TO STORE YOUR TEETHING BISCUITS
You can store the teething biscuits in an airtight container on the countertop for up to 1 week.
While Emory enjoys gumming these gluten-free teething biscuits, they are too hard for her to actually eat. Most recipes state that these Quinoa pear teething biscuits dissolve, but we have not experienced that. We usually find them laying on the ground around the house after they have been in her mouth. Gluten-Free Quinoa Pear Teething Biscuits
- 1 cup Quinoa Flour
- ½ cup Tapioca Flour
- 3 tbsp Coconut Oil
- ½ cup Fresh pear puree
- ¼ tsp Nutmeg (or cinnamon)
- Preheat oven to 300°F and line a baking sheet with parchment paper
- In a bowl add the quinoa flour, tapioca starch, coconut oil, ripened pear puree, nutmeg. Combine everything into a soft dough.
- Take 1 tablespoon of mix and roll it in your hands forming a long finger shape.
- Place the cookies one next to another on a baking sheet lined with some parchment paper
- Bake to 300F for 20 minutes. Turn off the oven and leave the cookies inside for another 10 minutes to get firm and hard.
