Did you know that Sauvignon Blanc is the world’s 8th most planted wine grape? Or that Sauvignon blanc and cabernet franc are the parents of cabernet sauvignon? If you answered “no” to both of these questions, don’t fret. All you really need to know is that today is National Sauvignon Blanc Day!
I’ve created a list (by area) that highlights all of my favorite wine spots around town. So, belly up to the bar and celebrate this national foodie holiday with glee!
Eloise Nichols Grill & Liquors River Oaks newest gem is not only one of my favorite spaces to visit for lunch or after work spirit animals, but they have a wine program that is certain to please even the pickiest of palates. Pro-tip: Try their Franck Millet Sancerre & Larroque Bourdeaux Blanc for a light, crisp and refreshing treat.

Enoteca Rossa: This is a great spot for brunch and evening cheese plates, customs brick oven pizza and calzones, and Italian wines by the glass and bottle. Pro-tip: Their Italian cheese plates and house made jams/spreads are a must for during your Houston Super Bowl visit. Address: 4566 Bissonnet St, Bellaire, TX 77401
Arcodoro: Hands spot for sardinian seafood, pasta and wine. Love this spot because there’s ample seating for all sizes of groups. I’ve tasting the bulk of the menu and suggest that you start your meal with a glass of Efix, a sparkling Sardinian wine. Pro-tip: Order the Polenta, it’s my favorite. Sal Y Pimentia: A South American restaurant featuring wines from Uruguay. Their menu boasts of the most succulent cuts of Uruguayan beef and seafood. Pro-tip: the Cazuela de Mariscos (Seafood Casserole) pairs perfectly with the “La Playa,” their traditional Sauvignon Blanc from Montes Toscanino. Tasting Room – CityCentre: A fashionable spot for assorted vino by the glass or bottle. Great for all sizes. Menu offerings like the truffle fries, panini & cheese plates are pretty popular. Address: 818 Town and Country Blvd #100, Houston, TX 77024
Around the Corner: A quaint little spot with a back patio perfect for large groups, with a great view of the area. The inside has a full bar and table seating. You’ll find items like flatbread and hummus trays on their menu. Pro-tip: They have a jukebox! Oh, and the house Malbec is a great investment. Address: 1510 Hutchins St, Houston, TX 77003
UnWine on Almeda: A 2-story wine bar that offers a stunning view of the bustling Almeda strip. This place is small, with the first level consisting of a few bar seats, and longer family-style wall seating space. The second floor is outside, so if the weather is nice this is perfect. They have a second bar and a television up there. Parking is located behind the space on Rosewood. Pro-tip: Request that the red or white of your choice be a selection from the Branwar Wine Portfolio. Their South African blends are my absolute favorite. Address: 4420 Almeda Rd, Houston, TX 77004
13 Celsius: Opened back in 2007 and has maintained its title as one of Houston’s top rated wine bars. It was recently named as the 2016 Reader’s Choice for Best Wine List, by the Houston Press. Their wine list is comprised of varietals with unique character and superior quality, from all over the world. This place can be passed easily, Street parking (near the corner of Anita and Caroline) is the best option. Pro-tip: Their brie is so darn good, you’ll need to order two! Address: 3000 Caroline
Brennan’s Restaurant: Brennan’s is one of the “fancier” spots you’ll find on this list. Known for their fresh gulf seafood and spirits (well, that’s at least why I know them). It’s located on the outskirts of downtown. I suggest parking on the street, just be careful crossing smith street. You can also valet at the front of the restaurant. Pro-tip: The icing on the cake at Brennan’s are the complimentary pralines that you get at the entrance of the restaurant and from your waiter will offer them at the end of your meal. Sorrento: One of my favorite places in Montrose. Their wine list is stellar, and has some great Italian classics. You can street park here, just read the signs before you leave your car. Towing is very common in Houston! They have valet at the front. Pro-tip: Their breadbasket is ridiculously massive. They provide you with a plate of roasted garlic, olive oil and spices for proper dipping. I literally come here for the bread and wine. Don’t judge. Address: 415 Westheimer Rd, Houston, TX 77006
Vinoteca Poscol: Meat, Cheese and Wine. That’s it. Vinoteca Poscol is considered a typical wine bar that can be found on the streets of Venice. Pro-tip: This place is a bit smaller, so call ahead for large groups! Address: 608 Westheimer Rd, Houston, TX 77006

Plonk Wine Bistro: Is a hip little gem located a little further from the city’s epicenter. Their known for their weekly wine specials and small plates. Plonk Wine Bistro has an outdoor patio, and due to their shopping center location, ample self parking. Pro-tip: fantastic and reasonably priced Bordeaux options here.
