First Taste: South Bank Seafood | fast casual seafood

South Bank Seafood

South Bank Seafood, a new fast casual seafood restaurant by the Eighty Six’d hospitality group is opening next month. The Eighty Six’d hospitality group includes Bovine & Barley, Rose Gold, The Fish and HTX Fan Tavern. South Bank Seafood, located at 702 West Dallas is opening in the former home of The Refinery Burgers & Whiskey, which was also a previous concept of The Eighty Six’d hospitality group.

My most recent visit to The Refinery was back in February. It apparently “shuttered” soon there after, in preparation for the new concept. Though there are still remnants of what once was, the Eighty Six’d group has worked tirelessly to create a more causal, open -air atmosphere. I couldn’t help but notice how a little paint, colored bar stools and the removal of a few walls could transform a place.

Under the direction of Executive Chef Harold Wong, South Bank’s fast casual seafood concept brings a breath of fresh ‘seafood’ to the 4th ward. The chef-driven seafood menu is fresh, approachable and affordable. Signature items like seafood campechana, lobster rolls and crab quesadillas can be found on the menu. The Thai chili wings were excellent. I highly recommend them.

When asked what guests are to expect during this weekend’s soft opening, Bar Manager and GM at Rose Gold, Ben Baxter said,

“We will be testing out our counter style service. Guests will order from the bar and the food will be delivered to their table. It’s very similar to an “onion creek” style of service.”

South Bank’s cocktail program offers a fresh & fruity approach, mimicking classic L.A. styled cocktails. Most noteworthy are the four delicious cocktails on tap. I highly suggest you try two or three of them. The Sandia Fresca and the Strawberry Basil Mule were quite enticing. The Sandia Fresca is a refreshing fusion of fresh watermelon and smokey mezcal. In addition to the cocktails, South Bank Seafood will offer a variety of hand-crafted cocktails and local craft beers.

    1. Yes! If you love delicious seafood and convenient service, South Bank is your place. The Campechana is stellar. Tons of fresh lump crab!
