Dine at The Union Kitchen during HRW & support TWO local charities

The Union Kitchen Bellaire

How did you celebrate the first week of Houston Restaurant Weeks? Following my first visit to 51Fifteen earlier this week, I ventured out to The Union Kitchen (TUK) – Bellaire.  If you are familiar with TUK then you’re aware of their four locations. Houstonians can expect different offerings at each location from now until labor day. Following my thorough review of all four deliciously-unique menus, I was sold on the Bellaire location.

Read on to learn why The Union Kitchen should be added to your #HRW2017 lunch list.

The Union Kitchen Bellaire (4057 Bellaire Blvd) is one of four Union Kitchen locations in the city. During Houston Restaurant weeks this specific location has some great options for the whole family. But it’s additional layer of philanthropy is what really drew me in. The Union Kitchen provides it diners with two ways to give back.

When diners order off of the Houston Restaurant Weeks menu, a portion of the proceeds are donated to the Houston Food Bank. While $1 dollar of each adult beverage purchase is donated to Case de Esperanza -the House of Hope for Children. This is a great offer if you happen to dine at any of the Union Kitchen locations for dinner. This offer is also available during lunch for all you savages that drink during work hours!

Though walk-in are welcome at this location, It was pretty packed during my recent lunch visit.

The Union Kitchen – Houston Restaurant Weeks Menu

The Union Kitchen – Bellaire menu offers quite the variety. It consists of 3-courses, with 3 options in each course. I enjoyed every bite of food that touched my tongue. I highly suggest the Tuna Tartare as a light and fresh starter. The fresh sashimi tuna and avocado grilled pineapple salsa were scrumptious.

Though the chicken bruschetta sandwich sounded delicious, I had to go with the “Dirty Bird.” The Dirty Bird Sandwich is a 5 oz. buttermilk fried chicken tossed in garlic honey hot sauce, served with applewood bacon (of which I quickly removed– after the photo), jalapeño pickle slaw, beefsteak tomato, and chipotle ranch. The toasted brioche bun melted like butta in my mouth! Most noteworthy were the accompanying potato wedges, that appeared to be dusted in a sweet & spicy cinnamon rub.

TUK’s dessert options were too good to just choose one, but I had too. while the Peanut Butter Pie was calling my name, I settled on Caramalized Pineapple Cake. Three layers of yellow cake with banana mascarpone cheese, mandarin oranges, toasted coconut and grand marnier crème anglaise. Had I read the description of this dessert before hand, I would have understood why in addition to the flavors of pineapple and coconut I also tasted banana.

While I am not sure how many folks were actually at TUK for Houston Restaurant Weeks, It was pretty packed during my lunch visit. Though walk-in are welcome at this location, I suggest you call and make a reservation just to be safe.
