Spring is just around the corner and happens to be the perfect time of year to dive into a robust bottle of crisp white or sparkling wine. This month, as a Salute to Spring we are highlighting Polkadraai Chenin Blanc, a delicious white wine from South Africa. Polkadraai is a blend of two white wine grape varietals Chenin blanc (70%) and Sauvignon Blanc (30%) and originate from the Polkadraai area, in Stellenbosch, South Africa. Both varietals were harvested early, to preserve the zesty character of the wine, as well as the tropical flavours. The two varietals were vinified separately and blended following fermentation.
This particular Chenin Blanc is star bright with a green undertone, and prides itself on being an easy to drink, well balanced blend. Polkadraai is grassy on the nose, but boasts of tropical fruit flavors that dance on the tongue. We recommend you serve chilled and pair with the freshness that comes with the season. Clams, Scallops, Oysters and green salads top our pairings list, pairing this wine with a to-go order from Holley’s Seafood would be a very wise choice.
