“What if by engaging our imagination and opening our minds we could unlock the door to a world of wonders?” – KURIOS

KURIOS by Cirque du Soleil premiers in Houston April 6th – May 21. In line with the captivating and creative theatrical production, Chef Bruce Molzan of Ruggles Black Food Bar has partnered with Cirque du Soleil on a themed whimsically-delicious menu available only at Ruggles Black.

What do you get when you cross culinary creativity with Cirque du Soleil? Six hand crafted courses of paleo perfection, if Chef Molzan is involved. Each dish on the KURIOS – Cabinet of Curiosities menu delivered on every level from presentation to taste. Though I’ve never attended Cirque du Soleil, the menu has peaked the interest of my inner child!

The tasting menu festively outlined courses in standard stage play format. Names of the KURIOS – Cabinet of Curiosities’ characters are the focus of Chef Molzan’s menu. Mini Lili’s Mango Orange Mojoito was the featured Opening Act. Dotingly named after”Mini Lili,” the diminutive dame whose taken residence inside Mr. Microcosmos’s stomach.

Next up were the Main Acts. Five robust full portions sure to please even the pickiest performance goer. The Cirque du Soleil Paleo Buffalo Chili was topped with a beautifully golden quail egg. The ground buffalo created a lighter chili; omitting the grease and heaviness that come with ground beef. The Contortionist Tacos were beautiful and a favorite among the group. Four succulent, shareable lobster tacos dressed in Cuban spices.

Since we’re talking spice, let’s talk about Microcosmos’ Grass-fed natural Szechuan Peppered NY Strip Steak. Though, I never eat steak, something about this dish left me kurios! Maybe it was the shiny glaze of the strip or the electric dollop of orange lime garlic mustard compound butter. Not sure, but the single bite I had was both toothsome and flavorful.

Klara’s Caribbean Paleo Fish & Chips and Nico’s Rice Con Pollo were equally spectacular in their own way. Klara’s fish was flawlessly flaky and lightly fried until perfectly golden brown. The delicately salted accompaniment of sweet potato fries and spicy sweet orange habenero Kim Chi made this dish even better.

Because I have some hard working bloggers in my corner, I was able to obtain the photo of the the “Encore,” or dessert. Yo Yo’s Tequila Lime Cake brought the show to a close.

Chef Molzan’s KURIOS – Cabinet of Curiosities menu is sure to awaken the imagination …and tastebuds.

KURIOS – Cabinet of Curiosities

Is an alternate yet familiar past, in a place where wonders abound for those who trust their imagination, a Seeker discovers that in order to glimpse the marvels that lie just below the surface, we must first learn to close our eyes. In his larger-than-life curio cabinet, the Seeker is convinced that there exists a hidden, invisible world – a place where the craziest ideas and the grandest dreams lie waiting. A collection of otherworldly characters suddenly steps into his makeshift mechanical world. When the outlandish, benevolent characters turn his world upside down with a touch of poetry and humor in an attempt to ignite the Seeker’s imagination, his curios jump to life one by one before his very eyes.
