Culinary Pop Ups + Cooking Classes
Etta’s Kitchen located at 4212 Dowling offers its local community a space for culinary pop up shops and chef led cooking classes. Etta’s Kitchen is located in the heart of the Historic Third Ward community, under the tutelage of owner and Executive Chef Shakti Baum. If you’ve ever visited Bar 5015, those bomb ass shrimp and grits you ate were made by her!
In a recent interview with Houston Style, Shakti Baum talked about being a self-proclaimed “country girl with city roots.” The creation of Etta’s Kitchen was spawned by Baum’s passion for curating stellar events involving food, great music, and good times. Baum’s cooking experience around the world. The Cayman Islands, Mexico, San Francisco, Maui, and Houston top her list. Given her vast history and experience, Baum’s goal with the creation of Etta’s Little Kitchen is simple; make people happy.
In preparation for Etta’s Mid – January grand opening Chef Baum hosted several members of the Houston Food Blogger Collective to rum and cheese themed sneak peek titled “Pop & Funk.” Members were greeted with chilled glasses of prosecco, a photo wall, funk music, creative provisions crafted by the chef and a live cocktail demonstration highlighting Etta’s celebratory specialty cocktail,”B Side Funk.”
We noshed the night away with hand crafted bites like savory pop tarts, juicy lucy meatballs, oatmeal cookies bites topped with soft ripened cheese (an homage to Baum’s father), mini pork tamales, and crispy naan. Etta’s Kitchen has a long standing relationship with Houston Dairymaids, which made our consumption of local cheeses even funkier!
Etta’s Kitchen hosts it’s public grand opening Thursday, January 19. Baum and team have created an evening of Asian inspired cocktails and provisions featuring a Build-Your-Own Bao Bar, a custom Japanese honey toast station and handcrafted cocktails using Japanese Whisky.
