Gluten-free Meat Pies

These gluten-free baked beef and veggie meat pies are just as delicious as any classic meat pie recipe.  Made in 30 minutes, these baked meat pies have a soft, gluten-free crust and a savory filling of beef, carrots,  green peas, and corn. My daughter couldn’t get enough of them and could not have cared less that they were stuffed with veggies.

Our freezer is always stocked with the gluten-free pie crust and pizza dough from Wholly Gluten Free We trust their products to not only be safe but tasty as well.

I love their pie crust and use it for my gluten and dairy free chicken pot pie recipe.  I decided to test the versatility of their gluten-free pizza dough for my baked meat pies. We were pleasantly surprised!

The dough created a savory, crunchy yet soft crust making them the perfect texture for both my 4.5 year old and 14-month old to enjoy.

This recipe can be easily customizable to fit your family’s needs. Any meat (or none!) OR veggie combination works here!

Baked meat pie

GLUTEN-FREE MEAT PIE INGREDIENTS

  • Wholly Gluten-free Pizza Dough
  • Ground beef (or meat of choice)
  • Corn
  • Green peas
  • Carrots
  • Plant-based butter
  • Cumin
  • Garlic powder
  • Onion powder
  • Smoked paprika
  • Chili powder
  • Italian seasoning
  • Salt & pepper

HOW TO PREPARE GLUTEN-FREE MEAT PIE

Prepare the Filling

  1. Preheat oven to 400°
  2. Line a rimmed baking sheet with foil.
  3. Heat 12-inch skillet over medium-high heat.
  4. Cook beef in a large skillet for 8 minutes or until no longer pink.
  5. Season with salt and pepper.
  6. Drain meat and return to skillet.
  7. In a small bowl, mix the paprika, chili powder, cumin, and Italian seasoning.
  8. Prepare frozen veggies per instructions on the back of the package.
  9. Add veggies to meat and season with spice mixture. Set aside.

Prepare the dough

  1. Dust your counter with flour and roll out the room temperature dough until it’s just under a 1/4 inch thick.
  2. Use a 4 inch biscuit cutter (or a lid of a jar) to cut the dough into rounds.
  3. Lightly brush the outer edges of each round with melted plant-based butter.
  4. Place 1 to 2 teaspoons of the filling in the center of each round.
  5. Fold the circle over the filling to make a half circle.
  6. Using the back side of a fork, press around the edges to seal the pie.
  7. Brush the exterior of the pie with remaining melted butter. Sprinkle with pink Himalayan sea salt (if preferred.)
  8. Transfer the pies to the prepared baking sheet.
  9. Bake for 12-14 minutes or until pies are golden brown.

How do you keep the bottom of a baked meat pie from getting soggy?

The foil really helps ensure no soggy bottoms. You can also flip your meat pies at the 10 minute mark once the top has started to brown.
