Authentic Mexican Food

My favorite time of year is HERE!! Houston Restaurant Week 2014 (HRW2014) kicked off today with a loud ass bang as we visited Hugo’s Restaurant for some Authentic Mexican food. Executive Chef, Hugo Ortega, who was recently named “Chef of the Year” at the prestigious Houston Culinary Awards sponsored by My Table magazine. Chef Ortega literally served us love on plate today during our lunch service.

Hugo’s Restaurant offers 2 courses for #HRW2014. Six entree options and four dessert options.

SAVORY

The entire menu at Hugo’s Restaurant is delicious. Some suggestions The Tacos de Pescado and Enchiladas de Vegetales. The fish on the tacos was fried perfectly and paired with flavorful beans . The blue corn tortillas were a nice add, in place of regular flour tortillas.

SWEET

Dessert was simply amazing and way more exciting than the entrees!  We ordered the Horchata Shake and Cookies, Pan de Calabaza and the Tres Leches. One of my lunch dates said the Horchata shake “was like drinking cinnamon flavored milk! The cookies were amazing and tasted of Dulce de Leche and sweet shortbread dusted in powered sugar.

The Pan de Calabaza was yummy and the flan ice cream was very smooth and creamy. The torched top and pineapple/strawberry glaze really made the Tres Leche aing. Unfortunately, cakes “soaked in milk” are a no-no for me.
