2840 Dukessa Events Venue & Restaurant | Houston Galleria Area

Dukessa Events Venue & Restaurant is the newest events space to open in the Houston Galleria Area. The space is absolutely stunning and offers its guests a customizable space for weddings, corporate events, birthday parties and more. During the day, the first floor of the venue transforms into 2840 Dukessa, a relaxed lunch spot under the tutelage of Chef Ross Coleman.

As a huge fangirl of Kitchen 713, my heart shattered into a million tiny little pieces when I heard of its closing last October.  Since then Chef’s Ross and Haywood have both taken their talents to other restaurants in Houston. A recent culturemap article titled ” Where to eat now: 9 best new Houston restaurants to love in February” referenced 2840 Dukessa as the “new home of former Kitchen 713 Chef Ross Coleman.” Menu items like Chef’s Ethiopian Goat Tostada highlight his interest in bringing global cuisine to the Galleria.

THE SPACE

2840 Dukessa is totally charming. The restaurant is flanked with large glass windows over looking the outside patio. Waterfalls and greenery provide the perfect back drop for a relaxed lunch. Our lunch took over 2 hours, so if you’re in a hurry make sure to inform your server Shawn. If your eyeing this place as an events venue, the lunch space is fully customizable. As a matter of fact they were resetting the space for a wedding that was to occur that night.

The 2nd level is an additional events space that accommodates roughly 150 – 200 guests banquet style. The best part about the event space is the menu, of which is also customizable. Custom menu curation is one of the highlights of my career as an events professional. Though, I’d happily defer this role to someone like  Chef Coleman.

THE FOOD

Everything that touched my lips was delicious. The lunch menu offers a variety of starters, light and delicious salads, house favorites, hearty entrees, desserts and fresh squeezed juices. I will be honest though, the food is a bit pricey. The one piece of Creole Shrimp Toast, while outstanding may not have been worth $15.00. Don’t misunderstand me, it was a stellar dish, just not enough. I spoke with Chef Coleman about turning this dish from toast to flatbread. The house made shrimp sausage, creole barbecue sauce and fried egg would be killer atop a crispy flatbread. My lunch date ordered the Spiced Lamb Kabob. The ground lamb and tamarind barbecue sauce left us wanting more! That was the worst part about the meal, we left hungry.

I suggest you visist 2840 Dukessa during lunch, with a group. This ensures that you leave full and satisfied.

CLOSING

I highly suggest you stop into 2840 Dukessa for lunch. While there take a tour of the events space on the 2nd floor. This location offers ample parking, great service and delicious food. I look forward to its continual evolution. Chef Ross Coleman is a force to be reckoned with! I can’t wait to see his vision of a West African concept come into fruition.
