Houston’s newest rooftop bar opened in midtown earlier this month and I was there for all the fun. 77° Degrees Rooftop HTX is serving Caribbean-inspired tapas and cocktails, four levels of comfortable cabana-style seating and stunning views of the downtown skyline. SPACE
77° Degrees HTX will certainly be the place to see and be seen this summer. The four-story rooftop bar is a contemporary lounge without walls. The cabana style seating is perfect for fame worthy Instagram photos!
Each of the four rooftop levels is flanked with a full bar and white vinyl furniture. Posting up on the top floor is definitely a vibe. It’s the perfect place to catch killer views of the Houston skyline.
FOOD
Houston’s newest rooftop bar serves Caribbean-inspired tapas and cocktails. I’ve yet to visit the Caribbean but I’d be curious to know how the food specifically acquired that label. Maybe it’s the gutted pineapples stuffed with various offerings of hot Cheetos, candy and prosciutto. I’m not sure.
We noshed the night away on tasty fried avocado, barbacoa, red snapper, el pastor and cornflake crusted chicken tacos. One stand out item, that I highly suggest is the guacamole 77°. A mashup of flavorful guac, ripe mangoes and pomegranate seeds topped with tahin.
COCKTAILS
Due to the fact that I didn’t try any cocktails, my commentary is strictly hearsay, lol. Their eight specialty cocktails are all based in gin, mezcal, rum or vodka, and while delicious there are three that stand above the rest.
Grape Expectations: grey goose vodka, white grapes, basil & lime.
Violet Sky: Bombay Sapphire gin, muddled watermelon and thyme syrup, lime juice, sweet vermouth and watermelon garnish
Cayman Account: Bacardi 8 Rum, Myers dark rum, rhum barbancourt, and a life sized parrot garnish carved from pineapple.
CLOSING THOUGHTS
Houston’s newest rooftop bar will undoubtedly be the scene come summer. As with most Midtown spots parking is limited. There is a dedicated lot out front but it’s shared with the Jack & Ginger crowd. I suggest parking on the street, but make sure to read all signs. Lastly, the mom in me wants to warn all my ladies to wear safe shoes. There are tons of steep stairs and I don’t recall seeing an elevator.
