Local Crafts, German Pretzels and Beer Cheese
Do you love craft beer? How about craft beer paired with tasty pub fare? At World of Beer – Katy, items like giant pretzels the size of your head, and crispy waffle smore’s drizzled with chocolate are two reasons to continue reading. World of Beer – Katy (WOB), located in LaCenterra at Cinco Ranch, is a Tavernesque Bar and Restaurant featuring 500+ global beers, 40+ craft, drafts and tavern food. Their five page menu boasts of shareable “plates and pints,” flatbread pizzas, sandwiches and burgers. As an admitted craft beer addict, I often find myself on the hunt for new, locally produced beers. During a recent outing to World of Beer – Katy, I was pleasantly surprised with their assortment of crafts beers. WOB reminds me of Beer Market Co. one my favorite beer gardens in Houston. I bellied up to the bar for a closer look at the eight well stocked beer coolers lining the back wall. The vast assortment of beers on draft caught my eye too.
BEERS
A couple years back I hosted a “craft brew battle” where it was determined (by me) that Texas craft beers were the best. You can find the majority of those classic beers on the menu at here. Another draw are the beer flights at World of Beer.
They offer four unique, moderately priced beer flight varieties: The Hops Flight ($9), Local Flight, ($11.50), Texas Flight ($13.75) and Tour of Belgium ($16). Diners also have the option of creating their own signature beer flight to match with their meal. That’s the route I took!
FOOD
The “Tavern Fare” menu is perfect, mainly because each items is accompanied by a suggested beer pairing. Making the choice of brew almost seamless. Stephanie, the bar manager suggested I try a few fan favorites and their suggested beer pairings.

crispy on the outside & salted. Served with house-made stone ground mustard.

World of Beer hooked up with two awesome breweries this fall to build collaborations for both the brewery and kitchen! Stone Brewing’s Stone Mixtape Vol 14 – “The Gatekeeper” was the fourth beer of my flight. “The Gatekeeper,” a WOB limited-release blend of Stone’s 2015 and 2016 Russian Imperial Stouts, and Stone IPA with figs, plum and Hallertau Blanc hops. This is a great fall selection and tastes of chocolate with a fruity and dark finish.
The tasting at World of Beers was great! Should you be out that way, I highly suggest you stop in. Their tavern menu is expansive, offering plenty of options to pair with the craft beer of your choice.
