The Edison: Vegetarian Friendly & Great for Brunch | North Houston-Heights

The Edison Houston

“There’s a way to do it better, find it!” – Thomas Edison

Earlier this year CultureMap featured an article titled “Where to Drink Now: 11 new Houston bars just right for spring sipping and lounging around.” My goal was to try a few spots on this list and write about them.  I’d been to a few on the list, so my mission was to seek out the new places. I randomly stumbled upon The Edison and have been stumbling back ever since. My most recent visit was for brunch, but I have also been for dinner, and cocktails.

“There’s a way to do it better, find it.” This statement is not only a famous quote from Thomas Edison himself, but also the restaurants motto. After visiting this place — on 3 separate occasions — I am here to wholeheartedly agree that The Edison is the way!

My friends and I joke all the time that we rarely visit the same restaurant twice. Not because we’re snobs… well not all of us, but because there are so many options around town. Did you know that on average a restaurant closes every 6 weeks in Houston? Me either. Due in part to the fact that I just made that up. But It feels so accurate.

A couple months ago I wrote an article highlighting the Top Spicy Summer Cocktails to try In Houston. A few people suggested the Edison’s “Scarlet Fever” to add to my list. So, I headed over for a look around. Upon arrival, I noticed how packed the patio was. One thing I know in Houston, is if your patio is packed, you’re doing something right. I parked on the street, walked around to the front a cozied up to bar. I was greeted with a warm smile and served a deliciously spiced cocktail.

While sipping on my cocktail I glanced over the menu and was instantly taken aback by the vegetarian section. Yea, their menu has a vegetarian section that consists of stuff like crispy brussel sprouts, fried cauliflower and charred carrots & Avocado. After this visit, I knew I’ d be back.

BRUNCH @ EDISON

Over the weekend I took my husband for a late brunch. He’s a french toast guy, so when he saw the Bananas Foster French Toast ($9) on the menu, I knew he too was sold! I highly recommend this place for a delicious, yet cost effective brunch option. You must try the açaí bowl ($6), bruleé’d Texas grapefruit ($4) and the blueberry cornmeal pancakes ($8).

Their full bar is open during brunch and they also offer seasonal cocktails. But if you prefer a particular drink alongside your brunch, they’ve got that too! Edison serves mimosas by the glass for ($3), or in a carafe ($12/$18). With orange juice alternatives like pineapple and cranberry available upon request. I HATE ORANGE JUICE, so this was perfect! You can also get a michelada ($5) or a Bloody Mary ($6).

The Edison is the perfect #SundayFunday spot for late risers like myself. They serve brunch from 11 am – 3 pm — Bar service only from 3-5 pm and Dinner service starts at 5 pm.
