Houston’s official Black Restaurant Week (April 3rd – April 10th) is dedicated to increasing the awareness, support and patronization of Black owned restaurants in the city. A portion of the week’s proceeds will be donated to Change Happens! a local non-profit dedicated to empowering our youth. HBRW offers Houstonians a  jam packed lineup of events to get the community out and moving!

The Art of Flavor: An exclusive Pop-Up Dinner featuring a Moroccan inspired five-course meal prepared by Celebrity Chef, Ja’Nel Witt kicked off the week of dining at the Houston African American Museum of Culture (HMAAC)…


Houston Black Restaurant Week kicked off this week. Forcing Houstonians out of their offices and into some of Houston’s popular Black owned restaurants. But as we’ve seen, it wouldn’t be HBRW without an amazing event to match!


Celebrity Chef, Ja’Nel Witt served an exclusive Moroccan inspired five-course dinner to an intimate group at the Houston Museum of African American Culture. This private dinner was hosted by the Aces of Taste, known for their unique dining experiences and intimate pop-up dinners. Special guests like Cleverley Stone of Fox 26 and Houston Restaurant Week as well as a few of our favorite chefs and caterers from NOSH, Chef Yolanda Henry of Nuksy’s Fine Catering and Chef Clinton Jackson of CJ’s Masterpiece.

The dinner kicked off with a hosted cocktail hour sponsored by Remy Martin 1738 and a fun interactive photo booth provided by Just Say Cheese photo booth. Prior to diner Rev. Leslie Smith of Change Happens spoke to the group about his journey and mission.


The second level of the HMAAC was transformed into a simple and elegant dining space with open seating at tables of six.  DJ Charlee Brown was in the mix spinning a soulful variety of new music and some classic hits! In addition to the delicious meal, guests were treated to course wine pairings courtesy of Branwar Wines. Chef Witt’s Moroccan dinner consisted of all her favorites. From a delicious Chicken Tagine to a savory and traditional Beef Kefta.

Most noteworthy was the Q & A session with Aces of Taste, Chef Witt Shared that she is currently focusing her interest in opening a new “boutique” styled restaurant offering Houston more of what she loves; great food and even better company!
