Get Naked! “Top 10” Wines Under $10 – Valentine’s Day

Valentine’s Day is a day of love. A day when we show our loved ones just how much they mean to us. Most celebrate with a special dinner, decadent chocolates or aromatic floral arrangements. My hubby and I celebrate with wine, lots and lots of wine.

Check out my list of  Top 10 wines under $10, perfect for your Valentine’s Day, romp!

Top 10 Wines under 10

Valentine’s Day isn’t about breaking the bank. Here at G&G we rarely do that anyway. So, in an effort to help you (and hopefully someone you know at least) get naked, I’ve comprised a list of my Top 10 Wines under $10. Although, I love deep, bold, rich and robust red wines. I honestly tried to balance out my list with a fair mix of red, white and rosé wines. All of these selections can be found at Spec’s (locally: 2410 Smith St.), for under 10 bucks!

14 HANDS

I’ve been in love with the wines produced out of Washington for a while now, and indulge on all varietals produced by 14 Hands Winery. Maybe it’s because their wines are “inspired  by the unbridled spirit of wild horses,” or that their smooth and silky ‘Hot to Trot’ blends are divine. 14 Hands white, red blends, as well as their moscato are all priced under $10. I highly recommend the ‘Hot to Trot’ berry-licious red blend.

BORDEAUX

Does your honey love French wines? Well, we know you’re not taking them to France, so why not settle for a robust bottle of Bordeaux. Should steak be on your Valentine’s Day menu pair with these the  two full bodied Bordeaux’s. The Château Des Romains Bordeaux Supérieur and Jean-Louis Trocard’s (2014) Chateau Trocard Monrepos both pair well with red meat. The Château Des Romains Bordeaux is priced at $8.99!

Looking for a lighter Sauvingon Blanc Bordeaux ? The Chateau Bonnet Entre-Deux-Mers (2015) is a combination of floral and citrus notes lending itself to pair best with fish or meatless meals. I prefer this wine with roasted brussel sprouts.

CHARDONNAY

Acacia Vineyard is based in the Los Carneros region of Napa Valley. Their chardonnay, A By Acacia , is light and bright. Seems like this Chardonnay should obviously pair well with seafood, but I suggest drinking it with a few chocolate covered strawberries (preferably hand fed).

MOSCATO & ROSATO

I really dig Sweet Bitch Moscato and have enjoyed it as a base to other spirited concoctions. When paired with fresh (or frozen) fruit, a sweet and seductive sangria is created! Sweet Bitch is also affordable. The (2014) mosacato is sold at spec’s for $8.94.

Another favorite  is Acquagiusta Roséa Spanish white wine made from red grapes. With a light chill, this rosé comes alive. My hubby and I will enjoy this bottle while we cook. This is our “starter” wine of choice for the holiday.

PINOT NOIR

The Pinot Noir from McManis Family Vineyards is on this list for two reasons. First, it’s priced at $9.99 which means you should get more than one bottle. Second, it has a high alcohol content! Coming in around 13.5 %. So, if you’re in the market for a boozy red for Valentine’s Day. Look for this guy.

BYOB SPOTS

Should you be on the hunt for local places in Houston to take your honey and supply your own wine. My top two BYOB spots in Houston should be right up your alley. Late last year I hosted my very own wine tasting for some friends at Lucio’s BYOB Bar & Grill. The food is great and they have an outside patio! Collina’s Italian Cafe is another BYOB spot I love. Collina’s serves Italian comfort food, and I enjoy their flat breads and fried artichoke. The corkage fee at both places is under $10 dollars as well.
