Black Allergy Mom

Enjoy this comprehensive list of our favorite allergy-friendly recipes, baking, snacking, and cooking products. All recommended recipes and products are gluten, soy*, dairy, nut (except Coconut),egg-free, and kid-friendly!

I am currently obsessed with baking! It’s such a great way to bond with Emory, who, by the way, loves to cook with me. Given her food allergies, finding safe products is my main goal. Although I’ve focused on Allergy-Friendly recipes and baking for about two years, I’m very much a creature of habit. If I find a product that works for me, I use it repeatedly. My latest content focuses on allergen-free recipes that are not only delicious but family and kid-friendly.

Although I can eat meat, vegetables, and fruit, most of my homemade recipes are for gluten-free and plant-based baked goods. My most popular allergy-friendly recipes for cookies, cheesecakes, ice creams, and cakes are made using gluten, soy, egg, nut, and dairy-free ingredients. I created this post out of sheer appreciation for those who take allergen-friendly baking seriously.

Check out my list of Allergy-Friendly Recipes, Baking, and Cooking Products below.

GLUTEN-FREE BAKING FLOUR

Baking flour is an essential item in my kitchen. Not only do I use gluten-free flours when baking but also when frying. There are tons of gluten-free flour options on the market. A good-quality gluten-free all-purpose flour blend made of lighter flours/starches (such as rice flour, tapioca starch, corn starch, or potato starch) ensures a fluffier and lighter final texture when baking. The gluten-free flour we use isn’t anything super fancy, but it does consist of lighter flours, as mentioned above. Click Here for my gluten-free flour of choice for baked goods, and Here to see the flour I use for frying.

PLANT-BASED | SOY-FREE BUTTER

I have not found a plant-based butter that is free of all allergens. They either contain soy, sunflower, or coconut oil. I will say that the suggested products don’t seem to bother Emory when baked. We tend to use Earth Balance baking sticks more frequently as it only contains soy and doesn’t seem to cause Emory to react. The other options, MELT and FLORA, include sunflower or coconut oils. All of these are pretty decent for baking, spreading, and snacking. You must read the labels when selecting plant-based butter.

GLUTEN-FREE BREAD & PASTA

A gluten-free diet can be pretty strict, especially if you have to cut out bread and pasta. Luckily for me, I’ve been able to find some absolutely delicious gluten-free bread and gluten-free pasta brands. Additionally, these suggestions are soy-free! BreadSrsly is my top recommendation for bread. Their wild fermented, gluten-free sourdough is my favorite! It’s perfect when toasted, and their sourdough sandwich rolls pair perfectly with your favorite sandwich. Their cinnamon raisin sourdough makes the best Vegan Bread Pudding too!

Emory loves spaghetti. She’s a typical 4-year-old. While Emory loves spaghetti, she refuses to eat her veggies. Luckily she’s starting to outgrow her aversion to nightshades, so we try to hide as many veggies in the spaghetti sauce as possible. In addition to the sauce, we like to use gluten-free pasta made from veggies and legumes vs. rice and corn. The texture is a bit different than traditional pasta, but she has no idea what traditional pasta tastes like, so we’re good! Tomatoes and carrots don’t bother her when given in moderation. For that reason, we look for tomato sauce that is pure tomato with no added soy or other ingredients. Dave’s Gourmet Pasta Sauce, Organic Red Heirloom Tomato is our tried and true brand!

SOY-FREE, PLANT-BASED EGGS

JUST egg offers two plant-based egg substitutes that are great for those who can’t consume eggs. The JUST egg liquid does contain soy, but their newest product, JUST Egg folded, does not. JUST Egg Folded is cholesterol-free and uses less water and carbon emissions than conventional eggs. It’s the perfect addition to your breakfast sandwich. I love to add them to my Spicy, gluten-free Fried Chicken Breakfast Sandwiches. Emory doesn’t like the texture, but I do! LOL

AUSSIE CAROB CHIPS

In addition to Emory’s laundry list of food allergies, we noticed that she also has an aversion to chocolate. We suspect that the traces of nickel in cocoa powder is the culprit. We’ve removed all chocolate and cocoa powder traces from our diets and transitioned to carob. Some use carob as an alternative to chocolate, and you’ll find it in several chocolate-like formats: as a powder for baking, chips that you can add to cookies, or as a flavoring in candy, baked goods, and hot beverage mixes. I use it just like I would chocolate chips. We also use the powder in recipes that call for cocoa powder. My famous Gluten-Free Carob Chip Cookes are delicious.
